zoe mafham studied art at liverpool university and has been working as a multimedia artist specializing in collage for over 10 years, undertaking private commissions and exhibiting in oxford, manchester and london as well as cape town.
zoe recycle found paper, including maps, children’s books and envelopes, into original collages. she starts in the middle with no pencil sketch and see what comes. zoe love the immediacy of collage, as well as the element of chance and accident. an old magazine can deliver pictures, colors and patterns she never dreamed of, from skulls to be used in a landscape, to bricks to make the feathers of a flamingo.
being proud of her technique, mafham is currently teaching this technique and love for art to the general public through workshops/collaboration conducted from her home in muizenberg, cape town. contributing to enhance the lack of art education she has given successful collage workshops on a voluntary basis as part of an arts program in the cape flats. mafham is open to any commission that places focus on buildings, coastline or area which can be created partially using paper materials (example handwritten letters, postcards, photos, menus, tickets, leaflets and press articles) of personal interest to the client.
numerous commissions, including a recent work for levis strauss has been done by mafham as well as various exhibitions of her collages extensively in the uk (oxford, manchester and edinburgh) as well as in cape town where she currently lives, works and teaches.
