Collezione: vincent da silva

vincent da silva is a sculptor based in somerset west, cape town. his work began in plaster, the medium allowed expressive textures and tool marks, which gave the work an abstracted quality and accentuated the movement the artist strives to portray.

vincent cast his first bronze and proceeded to market his work. he competed in the 2007 ppc young sculptors competition and was an exhibited finalist. after matriculating he was accepted to study architecture at nelson mandela metropolitan university in port elizabeth and during his studies in 2009, opened up his gallery in stellenbosch. vincent graduated from university in 2011 with a bachelors degree in architecture yet made the difficult decision to focus solely on his sculpting.

vincent explored the cat as a subject and drew from the inherit movement and grace of the animal as well as developing an understanding of the anatomy of animals in general. this allowed an exploration of a variety of african wildlife and in 2012 vincent took another stride with a range of horses. the artist aims to strip away the perception of the horse and echo the raw nature expressed in his wildlife works. following the success of the horses, vincent then proceeded to develop a range of works in a variety of subjects. a recent accomplishment being a life sized white rhino which he solely sculpted over a three month period.
